5 Reasons Blended Learning is Best
People have been reluctant about online learning in the past because the value of face-to-face classroom contact has been the overriding format in schools (probably since time began!) However, these past few months have really highlighted the wealth of benefits that online learning offers.
As students start to return to school, educators are returning with fresh digital tools and new technological perspectives. Everyone is starting to see the amazing potential blended learning offers! Here’s what’s so great about it:
1. Unlimited Listening
Once something’s been said in the classroom: it’s been said. For whatever reason, sometimes information is just not heard in class (and even the most pro-active teens cannot be expected to remember everything their teacher said!) With recorded lesson content, however, students have the opportunity to listen again and again- at their own pace.
2. Teachers Can Engage More 1-1
When teachers don’t have to spend all their time delivering lectures, they are freed up for more time with their students. By employing a blended approach, teachers have more time for 1-1 and individualised learning. Time could be spent reviewing feedback and discussing questions about the work instead.
3. Active Classrooms
With blended learning, the idea is that when students get to school they have opportunities to learn actively. This means discussions and group tasks can occur, deepening and embedding the content they have heard at home (prior to the lesson.) Blended learning paves the way for much more creative, dynamic learning experiences!
4. Tracking Teens
Mixing online learning with time in the classroom also allows for students’ progress to be much more efficiently tracked. Online quizzes are an excellent way of gauging and assessing students. Quizzing students helps to identify gaps, but more importantly, often helps students to recall and revisit knowledge. Whilst quizzes can be done in class, they are often time-consuming and administrative. Online quizzes give instant results- for both the student and the teacher to view.
5. Empowering Learners
Blended learning is empowering. More onus is given back to students: teens can acquire their own note-taking styles; they can strengthen independence, as well as confidence! For teenagers, blended learning bridges a big gap between secondary school and further/higher education. At colleges or universities, there is a very clear expectation that students do a great deal of work and research at home: this is a whole lot easier if teenagers acquired more autonomy and experience by listening to online lectures in their earlier school years.
Here at mydigitallesson.co.uk, we provide an incredible online video library- chronologically ordered within each subject- to guide your teenager through their courses in National 5s, Higher and Advanced Highers. Our online content is of the highest quality, utilising actual teachers to ‘deliver’ the materials (our teachers narrate through every video, explaining and guiding your teenager- just like they’d do in a lesson!)
Our content is up-to-date, relevant and purposeful. Quizzes are incorporated throughout, so your teenager can clearly track their progress.
Even when your teenager does return to school, signing up to mydigitallesson.co.uk is a unique and purposeful programme for Scottish students, which bridges any gap and keeps on top of your teen’s progress. Embracing blended learning is absolutely the way forward: it’s your child’s future!
